well personally i think you shouldnt pay to join, at the bbs all races are trying to get you to join.....your country needs you etc etc, if you sign up you are stuck in a length contract you signed for.
you just get a crappy wage and thats that but you must follow your bbs orders for lenth of your tour, also as its militarty you shouldnt be able to drag buddies along (ie your ships) also the military try to get you killed as ever as cannon fodder
dunno how you would implement it but it would be nice to see somthing different, i dont need money to have fun.
1 million to kill blah blah gets a bit repetive after a while.
i can make money trading, scripts i just want fun
i hope this dont sound negative, it wasnt meant to....great work...just tryin to maybe give yoou another approach im probally alone in this so ill shut up

well thanks to the other thread there is no shortage of ideas lol. As I mentioned before if you need a hand trying to figure out webs of clues and such just drop me a mail
Also, I can create sounds for you, just tell me what sort of sounds you need and I'll see what I can do. I have about £300 of top notch music softwares, everything from wave editors and reverb generators, to vst looping programs which I can make just about any concievable sound from....lots of combined sine, square and sawtooth waves lol

ok
tell me what you want them to say (english or nonsense only, I don't speak german or russian) and I'll see what I can do...complete with radio cackle if you want, and background noise ("Please, someone help me!" *sirens go off and lots of sparks")

Can't wait for this to be put in! People should collaborate more oftenTritous wrote:tell me what you want them to say (english or nonsense only, I don't speak german or russian) and I'll see what I can do...complete with radio cackle if you want, and background noise ("Please, someone help me!" *sirens go off and lots of sparks")
lol
well I have the tools, the skills and far far FAR too much time.
hell, I've taken to using a clumsy and hard to use 8 year old 3d modelling program to start creating a 3d rendition of my room. I mean seriously??? x3 lost a LOT of fun for me after I got caught by the plot win glitch. 2 billion cash at all times? spoils it. restarting.....profits are so slow I went crazy, but that's not to say I can't help the community.
of course, when that m7 mod is finally released I'll probably start playing more again. until then my spare time can be funnelled into more contructive things....that and visiting certain websites lol

well, first of all, a welcome message would be needed, when you first meet up with the patrol, something like, "Welcome pilot, join in formation and follow me on the patrol"
and also, "Enemies detected, break and attack"
"Enemies destroy, return to formation and continue the patrol"
theres a few to get you started with, and ill figure out how to add them

trying to think of one of my friends who sounds appropriately boron...lol. I think I can manage a split voice somewhat, and I can easily find someone with an argon voice. may take a couple of days though, voice tweaking is about as hard as it can get, companies have spent millions trying to research it...and I'm about to attempt it on my pc

Hmm, might not be necessary to undo the effects, just cut, paste etc.Mokonzi wrote:Why not have a play with the current voices. Maybe they put some effects on the boron voices, and with some tweaking you might be able to undo it. Paranid sounds like a Jamaican or West Indian to me.
I did it a few times years ago with my own voice, worked quite well, I managed to create various sentences with just 1 recorded one.
hmmm
Well the real issue is having the voice to start with, which I personally dont. but I'll ask a few of my friends once I get over this virus...got a migrane right now, and the co-codamol is making me drowsy as anything
I do interestingly enough have a great little voice synthesiser, and with a few hours of playing around could probably get some good words out of that. The thing is...I need to either create them with the right speech contour to start with....or I have to spend a few days trying to fine tune them with high accuracy pitch shifts to create a decent speech contour.
the problem is...with most sounds if you do a pitch shift and timesplice it...fine. but the human ear is VERY sensitive to dialect, accent and countour of voices. in chinese or at least in mandarin a single sound can have half a dozen meaning based on the tonality of how it is said. and since spoken chinese is astoundingly fast....it proves how accurate the ear is. time splicing tends to cause very slight oscilations in the voice, enough to make it sound pretty crappy. because of that I need samples as close to the right contour as possible, because adjustments to pitch need to be kept minimalised if I can.
split and boron voices if you listen carefully are multi voiced: I can take a voice, and duplicate it several times with very very tiny pitch changes, a dozen or so hertz, run them next to each other, and it should sound pretty good there. paranid are appalingly lacking character...I'll have to go around paranid space and keep harassing them to get a better idea lol.
If anyone wants to spare my friends the embarassment of having to repeat single words over and over and want to send me some samples drop me a PM and I'll give my mail address. when you send it don't forget to remind me in the mail what your name is so I can accredit it lol.
I have most of the software I need...I'm going to get my family to send my prefered wave editor to me, turns out I didn't have it on this machine lol. It's just a matter of getting a decent sample to play with.
if anyone does decide to record some stuff, I ask that it is sent as a wav file, decent quality, preferably ~90khz. yes, the files are huge, but every level of editing will have a degree of quality loss. I spend a LOT of time working on the final compression to try and balance the quality to filesize, so don't worry about that. single words would be the most useful to me, a variety of contours (imagine the different contexts of each word and how you'd say it, then imagine which race you are and try not to get depressed that all split have braces). I can to a reasonable degree deal with background hiss and filter it out. I'd rather have the unedited sample since It gives me more to work with.
