Activating Script Editor ... But how?

This may sound really stupid, but I am starting to rip my hair out.

"... you may activate the script editor the following way in your game:

enter the menu to change your pilot's name "

But where is this bloody menu? I can change Ship names no problem, but where the heck do I change pilot names?

Press enter and go to your menu, find the pilot tab, then go over to rename and enter Thereshallbewings

It's in the pilot tab. Simple way of activating the script editor is to

1. Press "P" when sitting idle in space
2. Choose "Rename..."
3. Type "Thereshallbewings" and be careful with the double L because X3 doesn't like typing the same letter twice
4. Press enter, the game should freeze for a second or two and eventually a sound will be played.

EDIT: or just what was typed above, damn im too slow

I put in Thereshallbewings in the pilot name change but it changed my name to Thereshallbewings. I actually changed the name from Julian to my name before..so is this affecting it?

No. The name before dosen't matter. But try to write Thereshallbewings again, but ssslllooowwwwlllllyyyyy. And then ceck for speling errors. The game does not alow you to write too fast the same letter.

For example: If you write Thereshallbewings at your normal typing speed you will end up with only one l instead of two.

PS. Make shure that the T is capital T in Thereshallbewings.

also when you get it correct, it wont change your pilots name, it will keep it at what it was, so if it changes, you know u've typed it incorrectly.

you have to type it exact, including the same case

Hi, I've just bought X3 on Steam and (hope this hasn't been asked before, couldn't see it anywhere) I was wondering how I could get a copy (id that's possible) of the MCSI Programmer's Handbook, mentioned at the top of this thread, since I don't have a copy of X2.

Thanks

I think i'm missing something easy, I've recently come back to X3 and having lots of fun, but apart from my main serious game, I used to do skirmishes.

I've done the Thereshallbewings
and its all activated, but I can't for the life of me remember where the simple menu is, as in yes I can get to the script editor etc, but how I used to do skirmish games was simple boot X3 up then there was this nice menu where I could add 3-6 Xenon's and various other races and just have some fun.

I can't find that menu anymore, must be going crazy, sorry for the stupid question but its really bugging me.

That menu isn't part of X3, it is part of LV's cheat scripts that you can find in another sticky.

Update 8/4/06

[ external image ]

ok,
Added all the "t" & "scripts" files to the "t" & "scripts" files in x3 folder

started a new game,
got up the menu,
went into general, - now here's the problem,

instead of the names of the cheats i have,

read-text XXXXX - (x's = numbers)

what did i do wrong or what do i need to put where that i haven't ?

please keep in mind this is the first time i have EVER done a MOD/SCRIPT before.

thanks,

blackknight8x

edit: also made sure i done the "Thereshallbewings" in the name change menu, got a little hold, a small beep. yet still after selecting the general menu i get
readtextxxxx-xxx

Also when first starting a new game i get the message

readtext6666-1

PLEASE HELP OUT A NOOB

The MSCI manual is a great resource, but I was wondering if there is anywhere that documents changes which may have been made between the version of the script engine described by the manual and the current version?

I find it difficult to believe that there haven't been significant changes introduced in 7 version changes, particularly when the version the manual describes was for X2...

there are changes, and added commands that rn't listed in the document, but the basic structure of the engine is the same, and how u use it is the same

Are they listed anywhere us mere mortals can access?

not afaik, but all the commands are listed in the script editor.

they just dont have the descriptions of what they do
