Fleet of LX's
I got bored with the hyperion so I built/captured a fleet of 20 LX's which I now use for assassination mission, and I must say they eat through capital shields like a hot knife through butter. You guys have to try this

Yeah, I've got 23 LXs at the moment I use them for sector defence.
They're great ships (will usually take out a standard priate group - 2 or 3 M3s and a couple of M4s/M5s), but I'm building centaurs at the moment because they only take another hour to build and I have the factories to equip them nearby.
I had a problem with two of them though. They kept changing their FoF id, so that randomly boron, argon or split would become 'foe' and I'd get the dreaded 'you have lost recognition' message. After a while I fiigured out it was the same two ships (in different sectors) that were causing this, so I just sold them. I think they were ships I'd captured and repaired rather than RE'd, but I can't be sure.
But yeah, in OOS combat the LXs really rule. Haven't tried them on assasination missions and I'm not sure how they'd fare against 4 M6s, but anyway I like doing those things myself

Quick question for those using a fleet of LXs or other fighters in offense:
How do you manage ordering the things? I mean, if I had 20+ fighters docked in an M1, the last thing I'd want to do is go through every one telling it to undock, then attack a target. Is there any way I can group ships together, for giving orders?

I currently have mine with 4xBPBE, 4xAPBE and BPACs in the turrets. Not sure this is a terribly good loadout, though--the PBEs chew through shields like nobody's business but then take ages to destroy the hull, and they guzzle laser energy like it's going out of fashion; I'm usually near enough out of energy after destroying a single M3. Need to change the loadout, methinks (although it was intended for capturing, it doesn't seem to do that well there either).Jimby wrote:What is a good gun loadout for the LX?

As for loadout, all of mine get 6 AHEPTs and 2 BPACs. The turrets get AHEPTs and I stick the 4+2 in the front. I use them for OOS protection though, so raw power is more important than a nicely balanced loadout.

In my experience, 2 B-PBEs will make people jump, as well. Just takes a little longer, but that's not necessarily bad. That way, you have lots of backup firepower if that dude has got a death wish.
